SMUD ANNOUNCES BRIGHT HORIZONS AS OPERATOR
Today, SMUD, Sacramento State and UC Davis Health announce the selection of Bright Horizons as the operator for the partnership’s new Child Development Center in East Sacramento, which is scheduled to open later this year.
“Bright Horizons is committed to delivering quality childcare, providing a highly competitive total rewards package for its teachers and staff, and being an innovative, trusted partner for our multi-party Child Development Center venture,” says Director of People Services & Strategies Laurie Rodriguez. “They’re also very committed to a smooth transition process for current Lighthouse teachers, staff and families. SMUD and our partners are excited by all that Bright Horizons brings to the new childcare center.”
About Bright Horizons
Bright Horizons operates more than 700 centers across the United States, including the Hutchison Child Development Center on campus at UC Davis. They have a stellar reputation for their commitment to quality early education programs that follow standards set by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
As an employer, Bright Horizons attracts and retains teachers which makes them highly regarded as a premium choice for parents when selecting the best childcare option for their family. Bright Horizons understands the importance of providing competitive wages and benefits for their teachers, which leads to increased retention and consistent quality care for our children.
About the Transition
SMUD’s Lighthouse Child Development Center, located on the SMUD campus on S Street, will close, having served families for more than a quarter century. All children currently enrolled at Lighthouse will be guaranteed a space at the new facility, which will double enrollment capacity to 207 when it opens later this fall.
Priority for childcare placement will be given to employees and affiliates of the partnership followed by the community at-large. Enrolled families will enjoy quality care with low teacher-to-child ratios and market tuition rates.
Bright Horizons will soon reach out to staff and families of the current facility to provide enrollment information and updates on the transition. For any questions, please contact Wendy Bybee at email@example.com.
About the Center
The 17,000-square-foot center along Folsom Boulevard will offer childcare and education services for infants and children through 6 years of age. The new center will also have more than 15,000-square feet of outdoor space, a new playground and children’s garden designed by UC Davis with sensory and edible plants. The new center meets a need for high-quality childcare in the Sacramento region.
Construction of the new child development center began in August 2021. Sacramento State’s University Enterprises, Inc. selected SW Allen Construction, Inc. for renovations of the existing 6011 Folsom Boulevard property, which SMUD leases. Here are some images of the progress:
